Important Home Fire Safety Tips

Here at the Reilly Painting Blog, we do a lot of home and community blogs, which is a great topic to discuss. But yesterday as I was baking a pizza, I noticed a funny smell coming from my kitchen. I went to investigate and noticed a burner was on instead of the oven. I immediately turned it off, and realized that we need to post home fire safety tips. Take a look at some of these tips and advice from the Home Safety Council.

• Keep things that can burn, such as dishtowels, paper or plastic bags, and curtains at least three feet away from the range top.
• Keep grills at least ten feet away from other objects, including the house and any shrubs or bushes.
• Store matches and lighters in a locked cabinetSpace heaters need space. Keep them at least three feet away from things that can burn, such as curtains or stacks of newspaper. Always turn off heaters when leaving the room or going to bed.
• Have a service person inspect chimneys, fireplaces, wood and coal stoves and central furnaces once a year. Have them cleaned when necessary.
• Always use stable, candle holders made of material that won’t catch fire, such as metal, glass, etc.
