"I am writing to compliment your employees on a job well done. Bob was very responsive in returning phone calls from the initial contact we made to get preliminary estimates to finish our basement. The foreman was at our house almost every day for two-and-a-half weeks. His work was excellent. He finished everything on or ahead of schedule, left all of the work areas clean, and finished all of the small details to complete the job entirely. Due to the timeliness and quality of their work, we were able to enjoy our finished basement prior to the Thanksgiving holiday as promised."

  • Coordinate Your Radient Floor Heating with a Programmable Thermostat to Save Money

[caption id="attachment_8505" align="alignleft" width="300"] Setting wall thermostat to 55 degrees Fahrenheit as a conservation measure in winter[/caption]

Installing a programmable thermostat  allows you to automate the heating and cooling of your house with when you're asleep or away. Letting the temperature of the house drop to a nippy 55º or 60º while you're away  will cut your heating bill by up to $180 per year. With an initial investment of anywhere from $40-$200 (or $250 with my personal favorite system, the Nest), the yearly savings will greatly outweigh the costs of installation within the first year or two.

Radient floor heating is a good way to heat smaller rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms, and are a nice feature to have during the cold winter mornings. And with a programmable thermostat, they automatically shut off when you leave the house, so that you're not heating an empty room. To maximize the savings of your programmable thermostat and heating and cooling systems, it helps to know your home's climate control systems such as the concerns mentioned here.

But you can't expect your thermostat to do everything. You should also take proper steps to tighten up your house with air sealing, insulation, and window upgrades to make sure that your heating system isn't trying to heat the outside as well. And for more tips on upgrading your home, take a look at our blog. And if you’re looking for a house for rent in Cleveland, OH, take a look at our Cleveland rental properties and call Reilly Painting and Contracting for all your Home Mechanic and remodeling needs.
