"The house absolutely glows with a new-found beauty. Tom is a genius in his ability to coordinate the work done to my home. In between many raindrops, he managed to get the painting done in a few days and have Mike, the roofer, and his crew tear off and replace the shingles and wood in two days time. And even though I'm on the west side, Tom was able to catch me before I left for work around 8:00 a.m. Your company has really boosted the resale value of my house. I plan to engage you again for interior work in the coming years. Thank you for a job well done!"

  • Clean Up Your Fence With a Pressure Wash

    [caption id="attachment_1929" align="alignleft" width="325" caption="Pressure Wash for all Exterior Material"]Cleaning your deck[/caption]

Sick of looking at dirt and mold on your clean fence? Want to wash away the grime with a fast and easy approach? Then you need to pressure wash it! Using a pressure wash is like using an ultimate squirt gun with cleaning products. A pressure wash speeds up the "pressure" of the water as it is released from the nozzle, and with this, clears away all the dirt, mold and paint chips from any surface. I highly recommend using it on your deck, driveway, siding or fences. Here are some basic tips when it comes to pressure washing. If you don't have the time, Reilly Painting can easily handle the job.

Any wood left exposed to the outdoor elements will cup, crack, and warp within the first year or so if it is not protected. The two most common natural enemies of wood are sun and rain. Sun breaks down the surface fibers, causing the wood to weaken and turn gray during the process. Rain causes the wood to swell excessively, eventually leading to the breakdown of the internal fibers. Once this happens, the wood becomes spongy and weak.

    Obvious signs of trouble are:

    1. Grayed surface (sun, or UV damage)
    2. Warping and cracking (water damage)
    3. Loose nails (a sign of excessive swelling and shrinking)

Wooden walls have fewer problems than decks and fences due to the fact that they are vertical surfaces protected by roofs. A vertical surface means that rain and snow drain off, leaving the wall dry. Regular cleaning and sealing extends the life of a deck or fence many times over and will keep clean wood fence algae. It saves trees, and saves you money over the long run. Preparation of the wood before sealing is more important than any other phase of caring for decks and fences. Proper fence cleaning:

    a) Eliminates dirt, mildew, mold, and algae
    b) Opens the pores of the wood
    c) Balances the pores of the wood so that the sealer bonds to each fiber.
