"Thank you for a tremendous job. Through all three parts of the work I've had done this year, Reilly has come across as total classy organization. I appreciated the professionalism and courtesy of your entire crew, and of course your good humor added to the enjoyment of what could have been a real inconvenience. My neighbors are the kind of people who ask, and I'll tell them all--with a plethora of rapturous and ecstatic enthusiasm--that I couldn't have been more pleased."

  • Be a More Independent Senior

[caption id="attachment_9946" align="alignleft" width="620"]A happier, more independent you. A happier, more independent you.[/caption]

The elderly are the fastest-growing population group in the world, according to this study. Although you may be bombarded with pamphlets and pressure to move to an assisted-living home, the vast majority of seniors are living outside of an institution. Of course, just because you’re older, that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t have the option to be independent.

Living in an institution can be costly, the care you receive might not be so good, and this may result in depression. So what can you do to make your home more senior friendly?

    1. Make your stairwell safer! You can do this by having another railing installed. Having a handrail on both sides can make your trip up the stairs much easier. You can also have better lighting put in, so that you never miss a step.

    2. Add more storage downstairs! If it’s a bit difficult for you to get up and down the stairs, having more available storage space on the bottom floor is a great idea. Keep your coats, shoes, and umbrellas downstairs, so even if you do forget them, you don’t have to make a trip back up the stairs.

    3. Develop a better outdoor atmosphere! If you feel stuck in your home, it’s a good idea to improve the quality of your backyard, balcony, or patio, however small it may be. Having an oasis in your own home can help keep you happy and peaceful.

If any of these home additions appeal to you, visit our website, or give us a call or e-mail, and your Home Mechanics will help make your house a better home. We, at Reilly Painting and Contracting, work with Scott Michaels, a local businessman whose goal is to help senior citizens live easily and more independently in their own homes.
