1. Purchase screen (aluminum or vinyl), rubber spline (piping), plastic pull-tabs if security of screen is not important, and any tools you don't already own or can't borrow. The pull-tabs make removal of the screen frame easier next time it needs to be taken out.
2. Remove the spline carefully from the trench that the screen is secured in, using the screwdriver or awl, all the way around.
3. Using a paint brush clean the trench.
4. Install pull-tabs into the trench, opposite the metal spring side of the frame, making sure they face to the inside of the screen.
