    Networking in this day in age is highly important when finding or creating new business. Having a group of people who you can turn to when you're in need of ideas or a soundboard to whom to tell your existing ideas to is very helpful when trying to navigate the corporate world.

    1. Start Your Own Association. Meet with a group of associates and colleagues on a regular basis who always seem to have their hands in interesting subjects.
    2. Look for Individuals, not Opportunities. Opportunities come in the form of people, so invest time in meeting and conversing with people.
    3. Create an “Intriguing People” Fund. Have a small amount of moeny tucked away to draw on for coffee and lunch dates with associates so you're not dipping into savings or overdrawing.
    4. Connect the Dots in Your Network. Connect two people with similar interests and secure your place in their minds as that bridge between them.
    5. Do the Layoff Test. If you were laid off tomorrow, who are the first ten people you could contact for advice? If you can't name ten, it may be time to brush up on your personal network.
