"JP and Mike did an EXCELLENT job. They were punctual, polite, thorough, neat, and accomodating. If we were unhappy with anything, they sought to make us happy. In addition to doing the work we requested, they found additional problems, told us what they were, and then corrected those problems after we asked them to. We would be very happy to have them come back to do additional work in the future, when necessary."

  • Standing Out In The Crowd

    [caption id="attachment_5666" align="alignleft" width="185" caption=""College to Carerr" by Lindsey Pollak"]Pollak[/caption]

If you're looking to improve your social skills, take a look at this article from Forbes where they give us tips on standing out in the crowd:

I recently received an advance copy of Lindsey Pollak’s book, the revised edition of Getting From College to Career. Though my college days are long behind me and I’m now on my second career, I find Lindsey’s advice on how to stand apart from the competition to be extremely valuable – especially as it relates to entrepreneurs.  There are a lot of similarities between those building businesses and those taking the first steps to build their careers. Whether you’re in college looking for a job or trying to get a new venture off the ground, you need to be relentless, proactive, informed and mindful of perception.  You also need to figure out your points of differentiation.

The following are a few of my favorite need-to-know tips from Lindsey’s book:

    Read the News Every Day

Lindsey advises that by staying up to date on current events, you’ll have the advantage of being more readily aware of new opportunities in hot industries. You’ll  be able to intelligently chime in on relevant discussions and have a wealth of material to fall back on to ensure you’re never at a loss for words at a networking event.   I couldn’t agree more. As I mentioned in my recent post about becoming an industry expert, as an entrepreneur, I think it’s imperative to stay up to date on industry trends so that you can constantly react and share a thoughtful perspective and feedback  You want your business to become the go-to resource for meaningful industry commentary. That won’t happen if you (or someone on your team) isn’t informed!
