  • Spotlight On Bob Antall Of Consumer Centric Consulting

Shopping has become an entirely new experience. More and more people are turning to company websites, and ordering online versus driving to the mall. There are those consultants out there who provide feedback for retail stores, creating ways for making shopping easier, and keeping both the customer and company happy. Bob Antall, managing partner of Consumer Centric Consulting, discusses some of his favorite online shopping sites, how he started his business and what his clients expect from him.

Brook Reilly: Internet shopping has really taken off over the past 10 years. Where are some interesting places to shop online? How do you find them?

Bob Antall: (Laughs) There is an unlimited resource of places to shop. I guess it really depends on what you're shopping for. You're not going to be buying things from one general site. Everything is catered for different needs. I also believe that age plays a huge role in where you shop online. I like to shop at some of the upscale websites. They have some of the best websites for online shopping. Sites like Zara, Polo and Calvin Klein are some great sites to look at for clothes.

BR: Who are some of your clients? What are they looking for you to provide?

BA: I normally work for mid-size companies. These companies have generally 200-1000 stores. Most of my clients are apparel companies. Stores like Rue21, Dick Sporting Goods, Vera Bradley and Body Shop. I have also worked with American Eagle and Target. The bulk of my business is broken up into three sections. The first is the strategy, where we work and formulate a business game plan to better increase revenue and sales. The second is technology, where we leverage technology to improve profitability and to gain a competitive advantage. The third is operational improvement, where we attempt to make every component of their business more efficient. Operational improvement and technology really go hand in hand in my business.

BR: How did you find yourself in the retail consulting industry?

BA:  I started Consumer Centric Consulting in 2008, and saw it as an opportunity to really be on my own. I had been working for a consulting firm for 17 years, and realized that I could start my own company, this way eliminating having to pay other employees for work I could be doing. My colleague Steve Biciocchi had been working in Cleveland too with a consulting firm, and we decided to partner up.

BR: Where do you go to buy clothes?

BA: (Laughs) I guess I am your typical male shopper. It's funny though, Costco has some great and quality made dress shirts for a very reasonable price. But I also like to shop at stores like JoS. A. Bank, Van Heusen, T.J. Max and the golf shop at Shaker Heights Country Club.

BR: What is your favorite book and movie of the year?

BA: For book, I'd have to say The Big Short by Michael Lewis. Movie wise, I just saw The Ides of March, which was very good.
