  • Make you sweat ’till you can’t breathe

    Last week I wrote about one of my favorite, intense exercises that's bound to make your legs burn and heart race. ready for more?

    Spinning, also known as indoor cycling, is a total cardiovascular workout that works your legs and thighs while burning some serious calories. Lead by an instructor, spinning participants imagine themselves outside pedaling through a variety of workouts. For the first 10 minutes, they may be completing a series of sprints. Then for the next 15 minutes, they could hit steep hills. Listening to a variety of music suited for the ride makes the workouts far from monotonous.

    Caution: if you become a spinning "pro," don't automatically think you're on to becoming the next Lance Armstrong. Cycling classes are designed to help you stay in shape during the off-season, particularly during the winters. I tackled a big bike ride out in Colorado last summer and naturally thought the hills would be similar to my spinning classes. This was clearly not the case. While spinning allows you to have total control over the resistance and workout, cycling outdoors is pedaling for an extended period of time without altering the resistance or suddenly pausing your workout.
