We don't normally do stories on fashion advice here at the blog, but this article from Cleveland is great if you're looking for some classic and warm clothes for the fall. When I think of fall clothes, I always think of one word: layers. Layering a solid colored v-neck sweater over a plaid shirt will keep you looking sophisticated, warm and gives you the option to change your look at anytime during the day. Here are some fashion tips for men courtesy of Cleveland:
Men's fashion trends this season are both rugged and refined, says Eric Jennings, vice president and men's fashion director for Saks Fifth Avenue.
Jennings refers to the two distinct looks as "modern mod" and "backwoods battalion."
Modern mod harks back to the British Invasion of the 1960s, he says, with dapper styles and neutral colors.
"There's a strong return this fall to authentic heritage fabrics and styles from the U.K.," Jennings says.
Men will also find an abundance of outdoorsy looks in stores, such as weathered boots, fur-trimmed outerwear, Nordic motifs and clothing in earthy shades of brown, green and blue.
MODERN MOD
Prominent plaids
Don't be afraid of a powerful pattern. Embrace the trend with a plaid sport coat or -- for the timid -- a crisp plaid shirt.
Heathered sweaters
The amount of contrast in the colors changes the vibe. Strong contrast appears rugged, while minimal (as in the soft gray cashmere sweater below) looks dressy.
Monk-strap shoes
This style is both sophisticated and simple. No laces to tie, but the buckle gives the perfect touch of elegance.
Toggles
The quick-fastening closures were originally designed for the British Royal Navy before World War I. You'll spot them on coats and sweaters everywhere this fall.
