  • Gift Ideas: 10 Great Ideas For The Golfer In Your Family

    [caption id="attachment_4964" align="alignleft" width="269" caption="Great Gifts For Golfers"]Gifts[/caption]

Golfers are like gadget gurus...there are many different kinds of gifts you can give them that will surely please them. If you have a golfer in your family or group of friends, take a look at some of these gift ideas courtesy of Forbes:

If your holiday shopping list includes a golfer, you are lucky because it gives you a big head start – you know you can get them something golf related. But after that it gets tricky, since most golfers are very particular about their clubs and you can’t just buy them a new wedge or putter as a surprise. And well, a dozen balls just don’t say “I care enough to think about you.” In fact, unless you ruin the surprise and ask and are told to buy seething very specific, I would avoid giving any clubs as gifts – they are as likely to hurt as help, maybe more so, regardless of quality, price or brand.Since I write about golf and golf travel all year long, I have been able to amass a list of the best gifts for golfers of every ilk and at every price point to make your holiday shopping easier. I hope this helps simplify your holiday shopping and you do not even have to give me credit for your selection.

    Happy Holidays!

    1. Animal Head Covers by Daphne’s

South African superstar Ernie Els sports a lion, while Australian Aaron Baddelly opts for a Koala Bear and Justin Leonard has a Yellow Lab. I have a Golden Retriever on my own bag, and Tiger Woods uses – what else – a Tiger. Whatever your recipients animal of choice, it’s a very good bet Daphne makes a head cover, including just about every breed of dog and cat, but also birds, sea creatures, farm animals, reptiles and even imaginary creatures like Sock Monkey. Bichon? Check. Yorkshire Terrier? Check? Pink dyed poodle? Daphne has it. How about a Himalayan cat, Emperor Penguin, wild boar, camel or gorilla. Daphne has all those, plus Santa Claus!

In addition to an amazing selection the quality is first rate (I’ve been using my Golden for years), which is probably why more than two dozen PGA and LPGA stars use these head covers. Prices are very reasonable ($15-$30) and several of Daphne’s head covers support charities through their sales (Justin Leonard’s lab gives to the ASPCA, for instance). Daphne’s has links to online retailers at their comprehensive site and their products are widely available in pro shops and golf stores.

    2. Collectible Irish & Scottish Golf Books

If your golfer is an avid traveler or has a golf library, it is hard to beat these beautiful works of art. The first edition, “18 Greatest Scottish Golf Holes,” was limited to 3,000 copies, still available but most of which are gone, and the more recent “18 Greatest Irish Golf Holes” 5,000. All are hand numbered, feature specially commissioned images from one of the world’s finest photographers, John Kernick, unique illustrations from highly regarded artist Siobhan Royer-Hardyand, and were printed in Italy’s Verona by one of the world’s finest art print houses, Editoriale Bortolazzi Stei. The forewords are by Padraig Harrington (Ireland) and Colin Montgomerie (Scotland) and the books include interviews with some of the game’s great golfers and architects, including Rory McIlroy, Nick Faldo, Arnold Palmer, Greg Norman, and Pat Ruddy.

These are instant collectibles, something even the most ardent golf fan is unlikely to have, and each book costs €225, £195, or $300. They are available at select pro shops or form the website of European publishing company 18 Greatest Golf.
