"After almost 34 years in our Shaker Heights home and untold contractors, painting companies, and individual freelancers, we have finally found the Reilly expertise, innovation and follow through that make your mother-in-law's testimonials sound modest. Your team was outstanding. The next time I need an out-of-the-ordinary project, I will be sure to call both you for repeated work and your mother-in-law for new recommendations."

  • A Non-Alarmist Guide to the Flu

    [caption id="attachment_8460" align="alignleft" width="300"] Seasonal flu spread[/caption]

It seems like every flu season, every media source is panicking over the yearly influenza cycle, mentioning how bad it is and giving the same advice repeated every year. We here at Reilly Painting and Contracting want you to stay healthy this season, even if the topic is barely related to home mechanics and property rental. We all know the symptoms: coughing, sneezing, fever, chills, congestion, and tiredness. But there are other illnesses easily mistaken for the flu and here's the way to differentiate:

    1. Fever?

    • Probably the flu. A cold can cause you to warm up slightly, but the flu will really heat you up.

    2. Is it mild and long lasting?

    • Probably just a cold. The flu tends to come on hard and fast, lasting only a few days while a cold can sometimes take up to 3 weeks to be rid of entirely.

    3. Tonsils are pink and swollen?

    • Most likely strep throat. Strep can come on quickly, starting with a headache and sore throat. Antibiotics can take care of strep, but not a flu, another difference.

    4. Diarrhea?

    • Could be norovirus or whooping cough. Norovirus is a stomach flu variety that's sweeping the country this time of the year. Whooping cough is diagnosed by a strong cough that ends with a "whoop" noise.

Prevention methods for the flu are the usual that you hear every year:

    • Getting enough sleep. (Most people need 7-8 hrs.)
    • Eating a healthy diet that includes fruits, vegetables and non-processed foods.
    • Drinking the amount of water you need.
    • Exercising. When you work out you enhance your body's immunity.
    • Washing your hands and keeping clean. The norovirus spreads through contact. Hand sanitizer helps kill any germs you might have after touching an infected area.
    • Taking vitamins, avoiding sick people and using hand sanitizer are just a few other ways to keep from getting sick.
