  • How to Clean Your Mattress Without Using Chemicals

    The one place we sometimes neglect to clean is the mattress, so here is a quick tip to make them nice and fresh before the holiday's .  All you need is essential lavender oil, baking soda, a container with a lid , kitchen strainer and a vacuum! Mix the baking soda and a couple of drops of lavender oil in the lidded container, sprinkle the mixture on your bare mattress using the strainer. Leave the mix on for about an hour, then use the vacuum to get it all up.  To prepare the rest of your home for the holidays contact your Home Mechanics

    How to do it:
    STEP 1: First, I remove all bedding, and go ahead and throw it in the wash! I like to have everything fresh! No point in putting back dirty sheets on a clean mattress!

    STEP 2: Lift up your mattress and vacuum really good in between the mattress and box spring.
    Might as well do it all, and it only takes two seconds!

    STEP 3: I bring a little tupperware with a lid up, and add 1 cup of baking soda, and about 5-6 drops of essential lavender oil to it. Pop the lid on, and shake it up really good!

    STEP 4: Empty tupperware into your strainer, and sprinkle it all over your mattress. Leave it for up to an hour. {This gives me plenty of time to do my laundry for the bed, and clean up a little more.}

    STEP 5: Using the hose of your vacuum, suck up all the baking soda. You can say adios to all of those nasty bed bugs and dust mites while your at it! {yep, they're in there} The baking soda is great because it draws up any deep dirt and ick that has been lying there in your mattress, along with any moisture! Also, the smell of lavender is amazing, and will make you sleep like a baby!
