  • Cleveland Heights Police Updating The Public With Social Media

I have heard a common complaint over the past months. Cleveland Heights residents want to be better informed of when a crime takes place in their community. They also want to be updated with any news or information on a particular case. Well now it looks like we might be heading in the right direction. Our fearless leader Michelle Simakis of The Cleveland Heights Patch discusses more:

We told you when the Cleveland Heights Police Department first tackled social media and launched a Twitter account in August, @clvhtspolice.

The department has expanded the type of information it distributes — police are now tweeting descriptions of wanted suspects and details about recent burglaries and robberies.

Police Chief Jeffrey Robertson said a Facebook page is on the way, and the department is considering setting up an email blast system.

“As a police department, you got to have input from the community as to what is occurring in the city,” Robertson said in August when the Twitter account first launched. “If we don’t have that, we’re not going to be able to function as well as we should.”

Recently the department posted information about Cassius Goff, a suspect in at least two breaking and entering incidents.

“Cassius Goff B/M 6'5 185 30yrs Wanted for Breaking/Entering apt. call 321-1234/911 if seen or have information http://pic.twitter.com/eKD5hrTe,” the department wrote Oct. 24.

Since Aug. 17, the department has tweeted 30 times and now has 53 follows. To follow the department, search for “@ClvHtsPolice.”
